5Perfect rice and more
By Ann in the up
This easily makes perfect rice, whether brown rice, white rice or wild rice. But it also makes the best lentils I ever made. My husband and I like red lentils and they are easy enough to cook on the stovetop in a pot, but they sometimes dry out and sometimes spatter and make a mess. With this "rice cooker" they turn out perfectly fluffy and well done. This also cooks any other grains you might want:wheat, millet, buckwheat groats, etc. You can keep the grains warm on the stovetop (inside the outer cooking pot/water bath) until you are ready to serve them.
The rice cooker is heavy duty ceramic, nicely made, makes a good storage container for leftover grains (it makes a lot) and is attractive to serve from at the table. The lid is not used when you are cooking, just for storage or serving. We bought this to replace a steam cooker made from plastic.

5Great rice steamer!
By Jerry Hughes
Bought this steamer after searching for a good one. All the better steamers were electric and therefore will, eventually wear out. And the good ones aren't cheap. I am replacing an old electric steamer that went bad and with this new steamer, I've found the perfect one! No electronics to go bad or replace, no batteries to replace, just simply steam. I don't steam white rice but only brown because of the nutritional value. Following the water ratio recommendation from the included cookbook, the added water level was way, way too low for brown rice. So I went back to my recipe I used with my old steamer and added twice as much water (or chicken broth) to the rice inside the steamer, as there was uncooked rice. I also let it steam longer than what was in the included cook book. I steamed the brown rice for one full hour, took it out of my covered stock pot and it was absolutely perfect. No additional water in the bottom of the steamer, no soggy rice, no burnt kernel s in the bottom, just uniform, perfect rice. Now, leaving the rice cook for one hour, the rice had a chewy consistency, which I like. I figure I could have left it cook longer but the longer it cooks, I assume the more nutrients you steam out of the rice. I cooked two and a half cups of rice in five cups of chicken broth and after cooking, the rice level was about one inch below the top of the steamer.

So, my rice was cooked in chicken broth and before eating I added some extra virgin olive oil, a little salt and just a half pat of butter so I would get a richer flavor. Absolutely wonderful rice. The only drawback I can think about for this little cooker is dropping it on the floor and breaking it. But if you dropped an electronic, plastic model, there's a good chance the electronics would break too. And with this cooker, there are no harmful chemicals coming out of either aluminum or Teflon. It's inert "glass". How much more healthy can you get? And when washing the steamer, you don't have to worry about getting any electronics wet. I highly recommend this steamer to everyone. (Delivery was ultra fast, through Amazon too.)

5I should have bought this a long time ago
By Eggbeth
I became aware of this unique rice cooker a few years ago, but couldn't bring myself to spring for the cost. Last year, when I received a cash gift for my birthday I decided to buy it. WOW. Do I feel like an idiot. For years I have been spending money for ingredients and hours in preparation of gourmet ethnic dishes and serving them with poorly prepared, "blah" rice. With this rice cooker, the rice boils and then steams--so that the product is light, individual grains that beautifully complement the Indian, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese dishes I make. I have made a variety of white rices as well as brown rice in it and been thrilled with the results. If you're a foodie, don't wait to get this rice cooker; it's worth every penny.
